Visit Montana And Put Your Hiking Boots On
Montana’s Glacier National Park Turns 100
If you want to visit one of the best glacier national parks in continental North America then grab your hiking boots and head on out to Montana’s Glacier National Park. On May 11 the people of the region celebrate the parks 100th birthday and while it may be party time for all – I recommend you celebrate by taking a short trek and enjoying the unspoiled beauty of the park.
There are over 700 miles of trails that you can trek along with plenty of great camping spots scattered throughout. Feeling hungry? Throw a line into one of the streams or lakes and you’re bound to haul in something worth cooking up a storm.
If hiking is not your style, try rafting (inflatable rafts are perfect in this environment). The waters are reasonably quiet, the scenery often breathtaking and when you do come across the odd soul, the locals are fairly friendly (just keep your eyes open for Bigfoot).
Montana’s Glacier National Park is huge, covering over 1600 square miles. If the size intimidates you a little then hire a local guide. They will cheerfully take you through the glacier cut ranges, across or along the clear cold streams, lush mountain meadows, waterfalls and lakes. They can also show you some of the best fishing and camping spots in the area.
You know, rafting through this park sounds like a great idea, especially during its 100th birthday. It’s relaxing, there’s no pressure and you can pull in and camp whenever it suits you. Try the four person inflatable raft (picture). It’s large enough to take the family, your tent and camping gear. Montana’s Glacier National Park – if you haven’t been yet – you’re missing out on a spectacular sight.
